WOLF INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS presents the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 powered XMC Graphics Processor Module

Wolf Industrial Systems introduces the latest of its customized high performance video graphics products. The multifunctional ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 based XMC Graphics Processor Module (GPM) is emblematic of Wolf’s commitment to combining high performance with greater application, reduced power, and extended temperature range for its Aerospace, Naval, Military, and Industrial OEM requirements.

The XMC-X1400 is the outcome of a collaborative partnership with AMD, ALT Software, and Channel One designed to ensure seamless production and delivery of advanced GPM’s for the Video Graphics Market. This partnership capitalizes on Wolf’s rapid Video Card customization and referencing combined with AMD’s industry leading production of High Performance Ruggedized PCIe Graphics, ALT’s expertise in delivering reliable RTOS & DO-178 Software, and Channel One’s known capacity for ensuring component viability and availability.

The XMC-X1400 is one of a family of several video graphic solutions powered by the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400, enabling customers to consider unique AMD product solutions with consideration to performance versus power-usage. With 128 MB of embedded DDR memory and power requirements typically less than 10 watts, the Mobility Radeon X1400 offers a significant performance upgrade using the same amount of power as the previous generation Mobility Radeon 9000. It is ideal for Military, Aerospace, Naval, Industrial, and Commercial customers requiring extreme high performance 2D and 3D graphics solutions.

Video Graphic Processors and board solutions are available in excess of 10 years for XMC-X1400 components which are stored in multiple geographic locations in environmental and security controlled warehousing. Congruent with its commitment to component life-cycle management, Wolf Industrial Systems continually offers its OEM customers new component technology enhancements, and the ability to customize their designs by the implementation of a Xilinx FPGA.

The Wolf XMC-X1400 is designed for extended temperature operation, and high shock/vibration requirements. It is available in two different configurations; an air cooled option for commercial applications, and an extended temperature conduction cooled version designed for extreme shock and vibration. Additionally, Wolf offers custom designed versions, providing optional I/O capability to meet unique customer requirements.

The XMC-X1400 uses standard Microsoft Windows™ and Linux™ drivers supplied by AMD/ATI™. It is further supported for VxWorks™, QNX™, eLinux™, LynxOS™ and Integrity™ by ALT Software™, which supplies drivers and real time operating system solutions. A key advantage to the XMC-X1400 Graphic Processing Board is very low operating power.

“The XMC-X1400 series offers five times the performance of the M9 series using essentially the same amount of power” said Craig McLaren, President of Wolf Industrial Systems Inc. “An additional advantage is that the X1400 series comes complete with existing OpenGL 1.2 and 2.0 fully customizable drivers certifiable up to FAA DO-178B Level A, provided by AMD/ATI.”

The GPM’s multiple applications include supporting OpenGL 2.0 commands, executing specified graphics draws, and output video. The ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 supports many different resolutions, refresh rates, and output formats. A wide range of supported Graphics functions include rotation, translation, scaling, tessellation, raster, texturing, transforming, lighting, fog, and shading.

EXPANDED VERSATILITY

The XMC-X1400 GPM is a model of versatility and choice. The GPU outputs four possible signals comprised of one pure LVDS, a digital TMDS, and two analog DACs. Any two can be utilized at once to produce two independent displays. The X1400 GPM offers both front and rear I/O with the capability of providing up to 23 independent display options. This is made possible by the GPM’s front I/O, which consists of one analog VGA connector and one analog/digital DVI-I connector , combined with sending analog signals through the PMC connector (J14) and digital signals through the XMC connector (J16) to the rear I/O. The GPM will direct signals to the front I/O if a cable is detected, otherwise it will default to the rear I/O allowing for efficient system diagnostics, maintenance, and convenience.

The XMC-X1400 GPM’s versatility is further enhanced by Wolf’s exclusive Lobo™ I/O Remapping technology. Based on specific customer need, Wolf can dynamically rearrange the pin configuration of the XMC connectors, thus expanding compatibility with a wide variety of ‘on the market’ solutions. This is made possible by Wolf having inserted a specially programmed FPGA between the GPU and the XMC connectors allowing for signal redirection as required. Therefore, if a customer calls Wolf and tells us they have a particular carrier board we can quickly provide the necessary utility and configuration file to reconfigure the pin out through the micro USB interface to make the X1400 compatible with their board.

GREEN TECHNOLOGY

The energy efficient XMC-X1400 GPM utilizes only the +5V as the main power rails, and the +3.3V as the secondary power rails. Consistent with Wolf’s commitment to energy efficiency, typical power usage is less than 10 watts for the standard configuration of this GPM, well below the market average. Wolf stands ready to customize the power needs configuration to meet the specific requirements of its OEM partners.

ENHANCED DURABILITY

The XMC-X1400 GPM is specifically intended to operate under extreme conditions. It is ideally suited for a wide variety of military, naval, medical, aerospace, commercial, and industrial applications. An intensive component selection and manufacturing process, combined with rigorous testing, insures that the GPM will be free of maintenance issues related to fatigue, deterioration, component variability, or aging throughout its service life when exposed to rugged environments. The GPM has an anticipated 20-year service life assuming use within specified operating ranges.

ENHANCED RELIABILITY

Unique to Wolf Video boards: Monitoring of five on-board temperatures: GPU die, three power supplies, PCB conductive rail, plus the dynamic monitoring of all three input supply voltages and currents. Built in I2C microprocessor allows for time stamping and data logging when current, voltage, or temperature specifications are exceeded. Logs are accessible via USB port.
