Wolf’s 6U VPX carrier QM6VCC with 4 MXC modules expands the boundaries of video graphics and GPGPU performance

The WOLF 6U VPX QMV6CC conductive cooled carrier card, and 6U VPX QMV6AC air-cooled carrier card are designed to harness the GPGPU and Graphics processing capabilities of its industry leading MXC modules. This represents a genuine breakthrough in extended temperature (-40°C to 85°C) Mil-810 40G shock and vibration embedded modular technology.

With the release of its MXC and VPX boards, WOLF reinforces its reputation of technological leadership. President Craig McLaren states, “It was time to end XMC and PMC daughter-card limitations, developing MXC daughter-card architecture that will give a solid advantage to military and aerospace OEM designers.”

WOLF continues to push the boundaries of video graphics technology with a multiple MXC compatible QM6VCC conduction cooled 6U VPX carrier card, and QM6VAC air-cooled 6U VPX carrier card. Unique to WOLF, the QM6VCC and QM6VAC each support a choice of either four Type-A MXC graphics modules, for GPGPU or video output applications, or two Type-B MXC graphics modules for applications that also require video input capabilities. WOLF's Quad MXC module VPX carrier offers enhanced video graphics acceleration, or parallel processing, for the ultimate in GPGPU array processor performance, using multiple MXC configured CrossFire™ or PCIe 2.0 interfaces.

WOLF’s new VPX boards allow for the cascading of MXC GPGPU processors for video graphics, parallel processing, or custom combinations. Such innovative solutions enable OEMs to develop revolutionary hardware improvements for each successive product release, allowing performance gains simply by replacing MXC modules with the next generation GPGPU product.

Key 6U VPX-QM6VCC/QM6VAC Board Features:

  • Four MXC sites with SAMTEC Searay™ connectors
  • Wolf I/O mapping module for Video I/O Signal Interconnect (allows for mapping of video signals to the VPX bus connector for combinations of video I/O pin-outs)
  • PCIe switch for 16 PCI Express 2.0 lanes to the VPX bus
  • Ability to host either four MXC-E4690-VO (Type A) or two MXC-E4690-MV (Type B)
  • Next generation MXC video graphic and GPGPU modules to be released in Q2 / 2011
  • Currently, as a Quad MXC carrier, the QM6VCC and QM6VAC support up to eight (8) video outputs
  • Extreme performance by linking MXC (Type A) sites in a Crossfire™ or PCIe 2.0 configuration
  • Up to five independent frame grabber video inputs, dependent on a single MXC implementation
  • Software compatibility assured by OpenCL and OpenGL

MXC technology is part of a dramatic advancement in the ability to offer conductive cooled, extended temperature (-40° to 85°C) Mil-810 40G shock and vibration, embedded video graphics and parallel processing capabilities in a reduced modular architecture. MXC modules offer superior SAMTEC Searay™ connectivity with over 500 pins providing more than 100 combinations of video inputs and outputs, including DVI, LVDS, VGA, RGB, HDMI, Display Port, Composite, NTSC, S-Video, RS-170C, RS-343, SCART, PAL, SECAM, and custom configurations.

Unique to WOLF video boards, is the monitoring of five on-board temperature sites: GPU die, PCB conductive rail, and three internal power supplies; plus the monitoring of core voltages and currents. With these capabilities, WOLF enables OEMs to dynamically control GPU, memory, and processor clocks, using a standard SM-BUS interface. These features combine to allow real-time monitoring of power usage, with the ability to tailor GPU/GPGPU performance based on the user's ability to cool the board.

Our “Wolf Pack” design strategy incorporates a unique team environment geared toward client collaboration, creating a high performance engineering attack team. This business model provides OEM clients with the resources for complete or selective engineering and manufacturing services, including: custom board design, PCB manufacture, system integration, software driver development, mechanical design, technical support, procurement, fabrication, testing, certifications, sales, graphic design, and technical writing.
